Independent filmmaking takes place outside of Hollywood

by pharmacyforus

Independent filmmaking often takes place outside of Hollywood, or other major studio systems. An independent film (or indie film) is a film initially produced without financing or distribution from a major movie studio. Creative, business, and technological reasons have all contributed to the growth of the indie film scene in the late 20th and early 21st century.

On the business side, the costs of big-budget studio films also leads to conservative choices in cast and crew. There is a trend in Hollywood towards co-financing (over two-thirds of the films put out by Warner Bros. in 2000 were joint ventures, up from 10% in 1987) A hopeful director is almost never given the opportunity to get a job on a big-budget studio film unless he or she has significant industry experience in film or television. Also, the studios rarely produce films with unknown actors, particularly in lead roles.

Before the advent of digital alternatives, the cost of professional film equipment and stock was also a hurdle to being able to produce, direct, or star in a traditional studio film. The cost of 35 mm film is outpacing inflation: in 2002 alone, film negative costs were up 23%, according to Variety.

But the advent of consumer camcorders in 1985, and more importantly, the arrival of high-resolution digital video in the early 1990s, have lowered the technology barrier to movie production significantly. Both production and post-production costs have been significantly lowered; today, the hardware and software for post-production can be installed in a commodity-based personal computer. Technologies such as DVDs, FireWire connections and non-linear editing system pro-level software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Sony Vegas and Apple's Final Cut Pro, and consumer level software such as Apple's Final Cut Express and iMovie make movie-making relatively inexpensive.

Since the introduction of DV technology, the means of production have become more democratized. Filmmakers can conceivably shoot and edit a movie, create and edit the sound and music, and mix the final cut on a home computer. However, while the means of production may be democratized, financing, distribution, and marketing remain difficult to accomplish outside the traditional system. Most independent filmmakers rely on film festivals to get their films noticed and sold for distribution. The arrival of internet-based video outlets such as YouTube and Veoh has further changed the film making landscape in ways that are still to be determined.

AIDS epidemic in the USSR

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Denis Portov

When an adult suffers from à child disease, it is extraordinary painful. Just as it happened to me at the late Soviet time when I caught measles, was bedridden for three days with a fever heat of 40C and was going to die. But then a doctor came, diagnosed the rubeola, I was taken to a specialized hospital and alive and kicking in a couple of days.

I will never forget those three days - an awful headache, general muzziness because of high temperature and in three days no thoughts but those of fast and desired death. In the hospital I met a man of about 50 who told me his case history. Further narration is from the first person.

I'm not young already and all my age mates often club to start complaining of their illnesses - some have ulcer, others - pressure problems, etc. And I sit like an asshole and can't keep the ball rolling since don't have any serious diseases. There finally I fall ill, which made me really happy. "They will cure me" - I thought - "so at last I will have a good reason to beat gums with my aces". I found myself in a contagious isolation ward of Botkin's surrounded only by those with Joe Trots and where everyone carries his own altar in their arms. I was also given my own altar. I really joined the club. They analyze me but can't find anything. At those times there appeared first reports of HIV-positive people in newspapers. The first one, as far as I remember, was a fellow from the foreign trade organization - a homosexual. That was the only association with AIDS. After failing to make a diagnosis the doctors decided that I had AIDS. And started putting me to the question. "Suppose you sleep with pants, come clean, we are doctors after all". I deny this but they don't believe me. They say: "Come on, faggot, we keep the medical secrecy". Thus, a week passes (in three weeks I gave up).

I come up to my doctor and say: "All right, guys, make a diagnosis and treat me, I may take it till the day after tomorrow, or else I will leap out of the window - can't stand it anymore". The next day they hold a regular council when a pediatrician wanders in by mistake. On examining me, she diagnoses rubeola proceeding without visible hives for some reason, which prevented to make the diagnosis right. The day before yesterday I was brought here and now I'm well. The only thing I'm distressed about is that it's even shameful to tell men about my experience - they discuss different serious ailments there and I have a child disease which is shameful to speak about let alone personal altars and how they passed me for a faggot. Then I have to hold my tongue.

I invite everyone who doesn't suffer from unneedful complexes to tell their stories (in Russian!).

Successful Child Actors: Kirk and Candace Cameron

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Toni Casala

You may remember Kirk and Candace Cameron from two of the most popular sitcoms of the late 80s and early 90s. Kirk was an instant teen-idol who starred on Growing Pains and his younger sister Candace played DJ Tanner on the hit show Full House. While both young actors were starring on wholesome, family-centric shows, their parents Robert and Barbara were working hard to make sure that their lives off screen were just as stable and supportive.

In her book appropriately named "A Full House of Growing Pains," Barbara recounts her life as a typical Christian mother raising two not-so-typical children. It wasn't an easy task attempting to guide her children through the pressures and insecurities of a Hollywood lifestyle, nor was it easy balancing a normal home (the Cameron's have other siblings as well) with life in the limelight.

By the age of eighteen, Kirk was making $50k a week and had gained the admiration of thousands of young teens. His sister Candace, after her role on Full House, drew significant critical acclaim for taking on challenging dramatic roles in films like No One Would Tell.

In 1990, Kirk reaffirmed his faith after struggling internally to find himself for many years – a personal revelation that had a profound effect on him. While it initially caused some friction on the Growing Pains set, Kirk had the strength to remain true to himself. In 1991 he married costar Chelsea Noble. Today Kirk and Chelsea have six children and Kirk has partnered with Way of the Master Ministries. In addition, he has stared in the Left Behind movies and continues to take on acting roles.

Candace Cameron was introduced to NHL hockey player Valeri Bure by former co-star Dave Coulier and the two were married in 1996. They have three children and currently reside in Florida. Candace speaks at various churches, colleges and outreach events in addition to being involved in organizations like the Starlight Foundation, Make-A-Wish, Compassion International, Children's Hunger Fund and Sheridan House Family Ministries.

Kirk and Candace will never forget their Hollywood roots, but their well-adjusted, successful and fulfilling adult lives are a true testament to the family-based upbringing their parents valued years ago. They continue to be walking examples of how a supportive upbringing and the development of personal esteem is invaluable in the lives of children growing up in the industry.

INTERVIEW WITH BARBARA CAMERON

On Getting Started in Entertainment

CIF: What were the early signs that your child was meant to be in the limelight?
BC: There were no early "signs" that our children were meant for this business. It was something that just happened. Another showbiz mother, and friend of mine, encouraged me for years to get the kids involved.

CIF: How did you find your first agent?
BC: We lived in the same apartment building as Adam Rich's ("Eight Is Enough") family. For years, Adam's mother Fran encouraged me to get my children in the business saying that I should really take my kids in to see her agent, Iris Burton. I trusted Fran and her opinion. Finally, I agreed not thinking that anything would ever become of it. A few days later Iris Burton was our agent. Today, however, I would encourage parents to interview the agent just as much as the agent is interviewing them and their child. Find the one that you feel good about representing your child.

CIF: How many auditions did you go on before the first job?
BC: Kirk booked his first commercial after about the 6th audition. I don't think it was more than a dozen before Candace booked her first commercial.

On Making it in Show Biz

CIF: What was your first big break?
BC: Though there was a progression of "big breaks" everyday, because small roles led to bigger roles, I guess Kirk's would be "Growing Pains". It was during the years of Growing Pains that Kirk became one of America's teen stars and through this show, he became very popular. Candace's break came from her role on a feature film, "Punchline" with Sally Field, John Goodman and Tom Hanks. It was during this film that the audition came in for "Full House".

CIF: Any funny/interesting stories from when you were first getting started?
BC: One story that I can remember was an event at the Disney Studios. We were invited to attend and Kirk brought along a girl friend of his. They found a bicycle and rode tandem. There were paparazzi taking pictures of all the celebrities that attended. They spotted Kirk and followed him trying to capture a photo. Kirk was very good at dodging the media and did his best to find refuge. But the photographers were insistent and so his dad had an idea! They were able to find an abandoned building on the lot. It was there that they exchanged clothes, coat, and hat and "Kirk" (really his dad) rode off on the bicycle with Kirks friend. The paparazzi saw the two of them and yelled, "There he is!" Robert, disguised as Kirk, rode off, paparazzi's chasing them, leaving Kirk free to escape into the crowd. It was a fun idea for awhile, but the photographers eventually got smart and realized that they were "had".

On Education

CIF: How did you school your children?
BC: During Kirk's high school years, we were able to have him attend his school for a class or two before filming (on set he had a studio teacher). This would give him the opportunity to stay connected with his classmates at his regular school. He graduated with his class with high honors. Candace was tutored on the set for a number of years and when she entered high school, we enrolled her in a private school so that she could develop a social life outside the studio. She missed being among her peers and there were a few kids at her regular school that were making it difficult for her to attend there on a regular basis. Being able to attend this school was wonderful, and helped her connect with friends that she still has today!

Successful Child Actress: Keka Palmer

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Toni Casala

Born Lauren Keyana Palmer, you may remember Keke from her performance in the critically acclaimed, award-winning film Akeelah and the Bee, but Keke was far from wet behind the ears when she starred in her role as Akeelah Anderson.

As a small child growing up in Robbins, Illinois, Keke showed her parents Laurence and Sharon Palmer that her performance skills packed a lot of power when she belted out "Jesus Loves Me" in her church choir.

In their home recording studio, Keke's mother Sharon helped Keke harness her vocal abilities, and both parents were dedicated to taking her on auditions and helping her to perfect her acting skills. In 2004 Keke landed her first big role in Barbershop 2: Back in Business playing the part of Queen Latifah's niece. At this point, it was more than apparent that Keke had star-potential, so the family left behind their newly purchased home and their secure jobs to head to California.

Keke's accomplished resume includes a role on the CBS series Cold Case, a national K-Mart commercial, and even a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for her role in Wool Cap. She is currently the youngest actress to ever receive a nomination in a Lead Actress category. She has also won the 2007 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Akeelah and the Bee. She also co-starred in the highly-rated Disney Channel Original movie Jump In.

Though her acting career has blossomed, Keke considers music her first love and has signed with Atlantic Records. Her newest album "So Uncool" includes an ode to her Chicago roots. The Palmer's decision to leave the Chicago area in pursuit of Keke's dreams turned out to be a good one, but they were definitely challenging times. In his interview with Children In Film, Laurence Palmer talks about the challenges of being a Power Parent.

INTERVIEW WITH LAURENCE PALMER

On Education

CIF: How did you/do you school your children?
LP: We came to California in November of 2003 and home-schooled our children under the Illinois guidelines for a semester until we found out about the California program Options For Youth, which Keke still attends and our oldest daughter Loreal graduated from this past spring.

CIF: What are the challenges of dealing with a school-aged child who is also working?
LP: Keke is a very social kid. Our main challenge with her is finding time where she can socialize with other children. We make sure she gets to some birthday parties, skating parties and movie outings with her friends. My wife Sharon or our 18 year old daughter Loreal or I accompany her depending on the outing and the other parent's participation.

On Getting Started in Show Biz

CIF: What actors inspired your child (in her work) or you to get her into this field?
LP: Keke was inspired by Brandy, Rave, Tia and Timara Mowery and Kyla Pratt. My wife and I were professional theater actors in Chicago and I think that helps us in understanding her desire to do this and how she approaches this business.

CIF: How many auditions did you go on before the first job?
LP: Keke's first audition was for the Lion King in Chicago. She made the Saturday cut and on Sunday, out of 400 kids, she made it down to the last 15 before she got cut. For a kid who never had an acting lesson and only did a couple of school plays, we thought that was great. After that we got her an agent. Before we signed with the agent she auditioned for American Juniors where she won a trip to California and made it to the top 33. Her first audition with the agency was for Barbershop 2 and she got the part!

On Working in Entertainment

CIF: Does your child want to be in entertainment for her whole life or does she want to do something else as an adult?
LP: Keke has a desire to eventually produce and direct after she finishes college, but now she wants to do this, and as long as she keeps her grades up she can. She can also say at anytime that she's done with acting and doesn't want to do it anymore and we will take her out of the business.

On Parenting a Child Actor

CIF: What is the biggest mistake you've made as a parent in entertainment?
LP: Nothing comes to mind – Keke's only been in the business for four years and we are still learning the business. We usually try to adapt and adjust to the situations that come into our life. Years from now I'm sure it will be easy to answer that question.

CIF: Are you ever afraid that your child will fall inline with the negative image of child stars?
LP: I would have to say yes. We just continue to go to church, pray together and remain parents. She has to follow our rules and she has to respect her older sister and she has to be an example to her younger brother and sister.

CIF: What advice would you give other parents just starting out?
LP: I would advise them to always remain parents. Kids can not play on sports teams with bad grades or bad attitudes and they should not be allowed to act if they display those same qualities. As a child you don't have the right to act – it is a privilege. As parents we have to let our children know constantly what is right and what is wrong. We must teach them to respect themselves and others.

On Children In Film

CIF: What is your current relationship with Children in Film? Are they/were they a good resource for you?
LP: When Keke was auditioning for American Juniors, we were introduced to Children In Film because we had to get a work permit. Twenty of the top 33 kids were going to be on TV, so all 33 kids had to have permits because the top 20 would be notified by mail and would have to start work upon that notification. My wife and I continue to use Children In Film's services for obtaining our work permits as well as for a resource for some child labor laws and guidelines and any questions we have that we think they can help us with.

Film criticism is the analysis and evaluation of films

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by pharmacyforus

Film criticism is the analysis and evaluation of films. In general, these works can be divided into two categories: academic criticism by film scholars and journalistic film criticism that appears regularly in newspapers and other media.

Film critics working for newspapers, magazines, and broadcast media mainly review new releases. Normally they only see any given film once and have only a day or two to formulate opinions. Despite this, critics have an important impact on films, especially those of certain genres. Mass marketed action, horror, and comedy films tend not to be greatly affected by a critic's overall judgment of a film. The plot summary and description of a film that makes up the majority of any film review can still have an important impact on whether people decide to see a film. For prestige films such as most dramas, the influence of reviews is extremely important. Poor reviews will often doom a film to obscurity and financial loss.

The impact of a reviewer on a given film's box office performance is a matter of debate. Some claim that movie marketing is now so intense and well financed that reviewers cannot make an impact against it. However, the cataclysmic failure of some heavily-promoted movies which were harshly reviewed, as well as the unexpected success of critically praised independent movies indicates that extreme critical reactions can have considerable influence. Others note that positive film reviews have been shown to spark interest in little-known films. Conversely, there have been several films in which film companies have so little confidence that they refuse to give reviewers an advanced viewing to avoid widespread panning of the film. However, this usually backfires as reviewers are wise to the tactic and warn the public that the film may not be worth seeing and the films often do poorly as a result.

It is argued that journalist film critics should only be known as film reviewers, and true film critics are those who take a more academic approach to films. This line of work is more often known as film theory or film studies. These film critics attempt to come to understand how film and filming techniques work, and what effect they have on people. Rather than having their works published in newspapers or appear on television, their articles are published in scholarly journals, or sometimes in up-market magazines. They also tend to be affiliated with colleges or universities.

The beginning of our chapter was written mighty fine
still remember how you were rushing for a train
carrying so much I had to offer you a hand

How your flowing hair brushed as we made it on time
as the trains zapping doors were put to shame
I should've let go your lingering thank-you there and then

get it in your head
find another breeder we're long gone dead
get it in your talk
don't utter another word to me anymore
get it in your bed
from whoever I really just don't care
get it in your walk
stop
make your sound
now turnaround
for the door to my heart is closed

In the recent world of technological advancements, the need of the hour is creativity and an imaginary mind could think in a unique way. Selection of best canvas art prints or photos onto canvas is something that can be cherished for a longer period in life. There are lots of websites which helps to print pictures on canvas. It is required by the buyer to analyze the market and choose the right place. Though it may be a bit expensive, money spent a little above the budget would render good quality products and sparkling results.

If one is bored with seeing the ordinary photos, such photos can be printed on the canvas by re-crafting them. This gives an artistic look to the pictures and interesting within a few minutes. So, canvas prints have the power to bring life to the objects as well as the pictures. Time and places can metaphorically be captured on to the pictures on canvas and this signifies that, it is not only made for the recent pictures, but also for those of the older times it can be put on to canvas that in turn can be saved for ages. In fact, there are many ways where the canvas prints can be used. For example, these can be interesting gifts for several occasions like birthdays, anniversary, thanks giving, wedding etc. If these prints are opted as gifts, then the celebrities' pictures can be canvassed on to them. This would indeed be a good idea for people who are crazy of their favorite star or rock musicians.

They can be the best gifts for a wedding when the bride and groom's moments are captured on to the canvas and showed to them. Also, it helps in preserving the family heritage by placing the pictures of the ancestors so that the succeeding generation gains idea of their family in an artistic way. Canvas prints have the ability to transform the average photo in to a masterpiece. It ideally converts pictures into remarkable mementos which last for a longer time. However, these pictures could be weird and funny looking making one to laugh whenever the person sees. They can even be printed in the form of greeting cards and posters. This is the reason why the process of photos onto canvas and photographs on canvas had gained its popularity not only among the adults but also to the younger generation as well. Even the pet animals could be a part of photo canvassing where people like to take artistic photos of their pets like cats, dogs, birds etc.

The first important thing to be followed during the purchase is to measure one's wall space keeping in mind the shape of the photo and informing the client the size which is expected. The shops may contain huge collection of sizes of standard pictures for quick delivery. They would be in fact satisfied to accommodate with whatever custom size that is ordered for. Contact needs to be made for the size requirements. There may exist sizes that could be turned around nearly 30% than a created-to-measure canvas. These sizes could be listed in their standard print sizes page and one could also check if their photo is apt for a larger size canvas print. Or else, the buyers have the option to order and obtain a free sample print on a bit of canvas to find out the quality of the products.

There can be images printed on the high level canvas which is later stretched professionally over a pine stretcher bar frame. Then the images are wrapped for gallery around the stretcher sides to the back of the frame finally ready to be hung. The durability of pictures and photos on to canvas lasts long when the canvases are chosen out of the best quality. However, depending on one's comfort level it could be purchased, but a better quality can be compensated when a person is ready to spend a higher price for their product.

Marbella – Celebrity Playground

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

By Daniel Eyre

A sunny coastal town filled with beautiful scenery and hotels, Marbella is a popular resort in the Costa del Sol. Holidays in Marbella, cheap and expensive, are popular with all sorts of tourists, but the town is most well-known as a playground for the super-famous and uber-rich on holiday. Marbella is, these days, internationally recognised as a favourite destination for the extremely wealthy.

But it wasn't always like this. Back in the 1950s, Marbella holidays were unheard of and the spot existed only as a small fishing village. All of this changed, however, when Prince von Hohenlohe founded a new hotel in Marbella in 1954, the Marbella Club Hotel. Marbella, which had been a favourite destination of the Greeks, Romans, Moors and Arabians more than a thousand years earlier was suddenly re-awoken.

Quite apart from the established French Riviera and Monaco, this unpretentious natural paradise, with its wonderful climate and earthy ambience, was recognised as a refreshing getaway for a carefree Costa Del Sol holiday. Marbella soon attracted not only the European aristocracy, business tycoons and beautiful people of the day, but also Hollywood icons such as Cary Grant, Gary Cooper, Stewart Granger and Grace Kelly.

Deborah Kerr was among the earliest members of this celebrated ex-pat community in the 1950s. For almost four decades, she entertained the cream of Hollywood and attracted other illustrious couples such as Audrey Hepburn and Mel Ferrer. They bought a Marbella property here in 1965, at a time when celebrities emigrating to and taking holidays in Marbella were at their peak.

In 1970, Sean Connery and his then new bride Micheline Roguebrune became the most emblematic celebrity residents of Marbella, when they bought a derelict house on the beach near San Pedro and transformed it into their personal Mediterranean paradise.
He and Micheline entertained the likes of Richard Burton, Michael Caine and George Best on their Costa Del Sol holidays. Omar Sharif loved to visit friends and play at the glamorous old casino in Puerto Banús.

But the era of old-style glamour came to a close when, after 30 years, Sean Connery moved back to Scotland, and by the late 1990s, the scene had definitely changed. The smoking jackets and tuxedos, De Tomasos and Aston Martins, valet-parked at the old casino, were replaced by outrageous designer wear, fast Lamborghinis, Ferraris and stretch limousines. Old decorum and discreet promiscuity were exchanged for wild behaviour - often played out before the cameras.

The new jet-set of football players, pop stars, models, soap stars and tycoons may be called garish and nouveau riche by some, but they are the ones who take their Costa Del Sol holidays in Marbella and fill the glamour pages today, pursued by paparazzi just as their predecessors were before them.

Living in or taking their holidays in Marbella, they share the town with the residents and normal tourists on their cheap holidays to Marbella, who are still thrilled to catch a glimpse of them or enjoy a sample of the glamour that surrounds them on their Costa Del Sol holidays.

Some of the old glamour remains, now represented most aptly by Julio Inglesias, and younger generations on cheap holidays in Marbella are much more enthusiastic about the prospect of spotting David Beckham, Bruce Willis, Paul McCartney, Lolita Flores, Craig David or Isabel Pantoja. Antonio Banderas is often spotted in the area, taking one of his regular holidays in Marbella at his house in Los Monteros.

These are some of the new generation of stars whose presence continues to give Marbella panache and still attract Costa Del Sol holiday makers in their thousands.

Daniel Eyre is the Product Manager of Search Travel Online. Search Travel Online is part of the Co-operative Group, specialising in cheap Marbella holiday packages, as well as deals to Majorca, the Balearics, Tenerife, Costa Blanca, Costa Dorada, Costa del Sol, Andorra, Malta and the Canaries.

A Brief Biography of Abi Titmus

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Jon C

Abi Titmus, 32, is a presenter for Television X. She is the ex girlfriend of former TV presenter, John Lesley, and is former nurse. The 'Titmusfication' of the British media is astounding. Like haemorrhoids the constant appearance of the scantily clad Miss Titmus is a constant irritant to people of a certain age. Short of releasing pictures of her kidneys (exclusive only in nuts) I'm not sure what part of her body she will be showing us for her next! Familiarity breeds contempt. Like Linda Barker who assured us " I like it.. I'm sure you'll like it too" over exposure and over estimation of your own worth are a terrible combination. Like so many 'D listers' you are left wondering who exactly are there people? Where as the famous derive status through achievement and skill, mere celebrities acquire status merely from being celebrities. It is a sad day when a Ellen Macarthur can sail round the world non stop yet be less well known then a girl whose best known achievement is a lesbian sex video. The monster of celebrity must be slain! Do we really want to laud the Jade Goodys of this world who mutter classic lines such as " what's a 'sparagus'?".

In many ways I think that Reality TV serves an important civic function in that it allows normal well adjusted human beings to compare themselves to potential D list celebrity fodder and thank god that they are someone else. Its Car Crash TV at its best, the kind that is horrific but strangely compelling at the same time. Sadly it also serves as a springboard for failing celebrities to re-launch their career and raise their profiles. Which would be great were it not for the question of who exactly did watch celebrity love island? At times you have to wonder if some of the contestants on these shows have just had major brain surgery or whether you are watching a new form of vacuum cleaner. Why is it that going on 'I'm a celebrity get my out of here' entitles you to release Mysterious Girl AGAIN? The mind boggles. At least the Crazy frog knows its irritating does Peter André? I think not. It is times like these that I feel that ASBO's are not being used properly! If ever there were a case for electronic tagging and removal from society here it is. In the words of Homer Simpson "I know I'm not usually a praying man, but if you're up there, please, Superman, help me!"

The photography school teaches you all the technical aspects of digital photography. The circuit, the shutter, the flash and on and on and on the battery you have to use. The charger associated with itthen the history of photography. So if you have decided to take just photographs, good ones it is not necessary that you should enroll to learn the History or Geography of the art. You want pizza you just get the instant base or you make the dough.., you don't go to sow the seed for the wheatcultivateharvest.then powder itthen refine it. Culture the yeast. Extract olive oil.., you see it is something like that. Everyone need not know the technical stuff.

Well it is a good idea to start a profession associated with photography. There are many employment options for the same. The user manual is the best place to start to learn the how to points about digital photography if you are not interested in a photography school, but are getting to become a good photographer. Online tutorials are also another option.

I have just taken a picture, it is simply lost. I searched all the folders it is not there! To avoid such a situation gives a friendly hi to the efficient user and get him to teach you all the basic keys in the book. If you are not interested in going through that small fat book called the user manual be modest enough to ask how and where to an experienced photographer. Remember, no question is a stupid question. You can be point blank with your confusion, I took the picture, I clicked the button, but the picture it is not there. You might have not opened the shutter, you could have clicked the wrong button and many more things are likely to have happened. So better be point blank to the experienced user. Anybody will be happy to teach you the basics if you are allergic to tutorials.

In God's creation there are no copyright issues! Alas! But some still claimbut you go ahead with shooting whatever you feel.

Transfer your images in the computer; put them in a separate folder. Some digital images or videos may require certain conversion softwares. Download those softwares and keep your images ready to view. You can add them to your web page, you can use them in your desk top or whatever. You can even your images to create greeting cards. There are many free version of greeting card softwares, which allow you to use your images and text to create a greeting card!

Any image has many things in it. A single image is not formed by a single color or a single combination. There are many unnoticed master pieces that get clicked when you shoot an image. You may have not had an ear ring, but the light effect might seem as though you have one. The admiration factor decides the value that is added to the photograph. The recipient or the viewer's creative sense will better determine the quality of any photograph taken.

Computer Setup For Music Production

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by D1

As computers have gotten more powerful, they've become the standard tools for recording, editing, and mixing audio. More and more professionalstudios are using them because of their power and amateurs are using them because they're also relatively inexpensive and easy to use.

If you don't have the space for a full sized home theater, then a mini stereo is the route to go, don't be fooled by the size of these, all though they look like a bookshelf radio, some higher end models achieve similar results to a full sized home stereo setup.

As with graphics and video, when it comes to the computer you use, newer/bigger/faster is always best. Audio recording and software can be very stressful on processor and ram . Most experts recommend that you run your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) with a computer that's not used for anything else.

If you are considering using a laptop, there are some important factors to consider. Laptop hard drives are generally much slower than those in desktop machines, and consequently too slow to do a lot of serious audio work. You will need to look into getting an external Firewire hard drive specifically for music purposes.

There are a few basic pieces of equipment that you will need to have to produce audio on your computer. In addition to making sure your computer is well-suited to this type of work, you will also need an audio interface to get sound into your editing environment. A good microphone is very important if you will be recording vocals/voiceovers or live performances on instruments. If you have more than one piece of outboard gear or an array of microphones that you are using simultaneously, a desktop mixer is a wise investment. For listening to your work, you'll need a quality pair of headphones at least, and a good set of small studio monitor speakers if you can afford it. Your local musical gear shop can provide good advice on equipment that will perform well according to your budget. The debate about whether Mac or PC is better for music production basically boils down to whether your machine will run the software that you choose.

• Nurturing ancient legacies.
• Enhancing the skill of the workers through training and exposure.
• Non involvement of middlemen, making the weavers free from exploitation and under payment.
• Promotion of research for new technology to bring the Indian carpet weaving industry closer to the international market.
• Helping the weavers in becoming productive and contributing members of their communities.
• Providing prospects for the overall personality development as health, education, including children's education etc.
• Welfare schemes through microfinance which help the artisans get motivated for becoming financially sound and able to hold assets like their own looms.

JRF is dream of its founder Mr. N. K. Chaudhary, who worked along with rural artisans for 30 years. He firmly believes that each carpet is the aesthetic sense and inner feelings of artisans, which is their power of expression. At present JRF has ensured sustained livelihoods to 25000 artisans in wool reeling, dyeing, carpet weaving, repairing and many downstream jobs in the production chain.

Tips For Getting Faster Digital Camera Performance

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Lonnie Kunkel

Lag time, which is the delay between pressing the shutter button and getting a picture and the time between taking consecutive shots, is a common complaint from owners of lower and mid range digital cameras.

So here are some tips for those who can't afford to buy a higher end camera, but want to learn how to reduce lag time.

Reducing Lag.
Lag time is caused in large part by the focusing functions that are being performed by the camera between the pressing of the shutter button and the actual snap of the picture.

One thing you can do is press the button halfway down and hold it prior to taking the picture, this will help the camera focus before taking the picture. Once you're read to take the picture, depress the button completely and the camera will respond with almost no delay. But for this to work you must plan and be prepared before taking the shot.

Reducing Delay Between Shots.
The time it takes a digital camera to write an image to the memory card is usually the problem with lag between taking one picture immediately after the first one.

One technique is to use a lower resolution, but this can effect the quality of the image. So if you don't want to compromise your photo the second thing you can do is find a memory card that has a faster write time. These cards are especially important if you have a 5 pixel camera or more. But make sure the camera can accommodate this type of card or this technique will not be effective.

Scrubs TV Show Comedy Or Not ?

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Iulian

I first started watching this show by catching reruns on FOX before i went to bed every nite. After about a couple of weeks of watching Scrubs, i loved it and went out and bought all the seasons available on DVD. Not a disappointment at all. If you are tired of those soo serious dramas out there and want some humor in your life, this is a perfect show. This show also has its dramatic moments but mixes it with some comedy too.

So why it is an comedy and why it isn`t ?

Scrubs is a TV comedy about a group of hospital employee's that is shown on NBC Thursday nights at 9 eastern time. It's quite different than most shows about hospitals, in that it shows you the perspective of how each person sees the events of the day, as if you are looking through their eyes. Scrubs shows the closeness and relationships of the employee's. It demonstrates how childish even doctors and nurses can be in their thoughts if you could only read their minds. After all doctors and nurses are people too. It shows how they play pranks on each other as a means to get through life's every day problems. The main Characters in Scrubs are JD, Elliot, Carla, Turk, Dr Kelso, Dr Cocks, Larry, Lavern, Todd and the janitor. Sometimes they get a little corny but overall it's very funny.

Sometimes a little sappy, and always insane, this show stands out amidst a wasteland of crappy medical melodramas (I'm talking to you, ER and Grey's Anatomy!). The scary truth is that Scrubs is probably the best at capturing what we go through in med school, residency training and afterwards--but even if you're not a doc, the smart writing and psychotic subplots are enough to make this show a must-see.

This author runs a network of tv show sites also an website where you can watch scrubs online free !

The History Of Modern Art

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Pablo Nicolas

Modern art is a general term used for most of the artistic work reckoned anywhere from the early 17th century until the present time. Modern art refers to the new approach to art which placed emphasis on representing emotions, themes, and various abstractions. Artists experimented with new ways of seeing, with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art, often moving further toward abstraction. The notion of modern art is closely related to Modernism.

The history of modern art can be traced to a group of French artists who broke from the formal, realistic art of their contemporaries thus introducing the movement of Impressionism. Notable among the Impressionist painters were Edouard Manet, Claude Monet, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro and Pierre Auguste Renoir of France and Alfred Sisley of England. Impressionists, through the dramatic use of light and color, introduced a whole new approach to art. The tradition became highly popular and evolved to give rise to a number of Post-Impressionistic movements.

Hailed as one of the prime Post-Impressionistic movements, Fauvism, believed in the use of simplified designs in combination with an "orgy of pure colors". The famous artists during this period were Henri Matisse, Andre Derain, Maurice de Vlaminch, Kees van Dongen and Raoul Dufy. The German form of Fauvism is known as Expressionism.

In 1880, there emerged a new elaborate style of art called Art Nouveau. The painting of Gustave Klimpt, whose stunningly adorned, often mysterious women became the rage of the time. The Art Deco Movement can be regarded as a follow-up style of the Art Nouveau. The great artist, Pablo Picasso, heralded the tradition of Cubism- an art form favoring geometrical forms and fragmentations.

The following period saw a number of artists revolting against the contemporary art forms, which they considered as obscure and sophisticated. Andy Warhol led the movement to Pop Art. His works featured the portraits of renowned personalities, which he reduced to almost cartoon-like simplicity. Amongst the other art movements of the 20th century, Surrealism, Abstract Movement, and Op Art Movement (Optical Art) are significant.

The Industrial Revolution ushered in a series of changes in the society, thereby forming the platform for a series of movements. These movements have left a huge impact on the art and culture of the contemporary period. For instance, the 20th century has witnessed a huge influx of new artistic techniques and materials, not to mention the modes of expression!

Shahrukh Khan's The Red Chillies Entertainment became the owner of Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL cricket league.

Shahrukh Khan is born in Leo Ascendant and Mars is placed in the 4th house in Scorpio and becomes Atmakaraka so he has always been a sports lover. He is currently running Saturn-Saturn-Saturn Phase and Saturn in 7th house represents masses or public. The transiting Jupiter is moving in the 5th house of performance over the natal Venus, the planet of fame and glory. IPL will commence on 18th of April when Sun the Lord of Ascendant will be exalted. Venus the 10th Lord will also be exalted. So there is no doubt that the King Khan will gain name and fame from his new venture. He is passing through a progressive phase of his life where he may try many things connected to masses and Cricket is the game, which touches the heart of Indians.

Captain of Kolkata Knight Riders Saurav Ganguli is currently running Jupiter-Mercury-Venus period and from 9th May he will be under the influence of Jupiter-Mercury-Sun phase. Sun is exalted in the Navmansa chart and placed well as a Lord of Ascendant. So both the key figures of KKR are looking in great shape.

Looking at the charts of other members of the team Ganesha feels that Brendon McCullum, Ishant Sharma, Chris Gayle and David Hussey may play prominent role during this IPL first season for Kolkata Knight Riders. Ganesha also feels that place in Semi Finals of IPL are good for this team. But SRK's team may face tough challenges from Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Daredevils. They will surely play like Royal Bengal Tiger and try hard to unleash the power and tear down the rivals.

Lorries in the Limelight

Subscribe in a Reader

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by Lyall Cresswell

What do you think of when you picture a lorry? Perhaps one of these lorries from popular culture. They might not wear giant sunglasses or have punch-ups with the paparazzi, but that doesn't make these superstars any less well known.

From the Coca Cola Christmas haulage truck from the TV ad to the mysterious characters of the tongue twister 'Red Lorry Yellow Lorry', here is a reminder of some of the most famous trucks, lorries and general haulage vehicles of all time.

1) Red Lorry Yellow Lorry

Originally a British tongue twister, you may be interested to know that 'Red Lorry Yellow Lorry' is also a rock band that was formed in Leeds in 1981. Whilst there are no known lorry or lorries attached to the phrase, this is certainly a famous lorry concept which is entrenched in the British psyche. Red lorry yellow lorry red lorry yellow lorry … It's even hard to type!

2) Long-distance Clara's juggernaught

As the song goes,

Long Distance Clara, shifts the gears
Long Distance Clara, she safely steers
Long Distance Clara, slams on the brakes
Long Distance Clara, accelerates
Long Distance Clara driving round the bend
Hot dinner waiting at her journeys end
Long Distance Clara, driving down the road
Always on time and never late

- Part of the theme tune to the adorable pre-school cartoon 'Pigeon Street'.

3) Fire Engines

Ok, so we don't really call them 'lorries', but we sometimes call them 'trucks', and that's really what they are. The real hero in the world of over-sized vehicles, this red bundle of bravery is like a giant red angel, transporting fire-fighters to the scene of the blaze and providing them selflessly with access to the burning building with its trusty ladder, water with its hose and a whole host of other equipment for battling the flames.

4) Coca Cola Christmas Truck

You remember the ad with all those beautiful Christmas - themed haulage trucks? Perhaps this will jog your memory:

'Holidays are coming, holidays are coming
Tis the season
Watch out, look around
Something's coming, coming to town
Do do do do do
Always Coca Cola.
Something magic, in the night
Can't you see it, shining bright!
La la la la la la la la la la
Holiday refreshment's what we bring
Tis the season, it's always the real thing!
Always Coca Cola!'

- A heart-warming Christmas treat which almost makes up for a million rotting teeth.

5) Optimus Prime and the Transformers Movie

The basis of the film is as follows: a long time ago, far away on the planet of Cybertron, an alien civil war was being waged between the two races of robots - the noble hero Autobots led by the wise Optimus Prime, and the devious evil Decepticons commanded by the dreaded Megatron - for control over the Allspark, a mystical talisman that would grant unlimited power to whoever possessed it. For some reason, the Autobots and the evil Decepticons are able to change into a variety of objects, including cars, trucks, planes and other technological creations, but tend to spend their time masquerading as enormous haulage trucks when inhabiting the Earth.

Lyall Cresswell is the Managing Director for the Transport Exchange Group. Haulage Exchange, their freight exchange for the 7.5 tonne and above market, offers an independent environment for its members to swap haulage loads.

Inner voice of Mark Birros. II.

DON'T FORGET TO COMMENT ON THIS ARTICLE

by roystona

From world war two in the Atlantic
I hear the drowning cries of men,
climbing out, as in spirit, from waters
that lap the steps of the harbour wall ;
time erodes as the sea -
washing up these thoughts that linger
here and on many beaches,
thoughts that stick and have the stench
of used oil around them,
the name on a memorial
does not reflect the horror ;
the surf rejects such cogitation ;
for a moment, ' try again '
the gulls seemed to say,
' let go ' said the movement of the ocean,
but I cannot, I simply cannot
for what transcends these waves
and breathes out the universe
is love, the love of a father.... ... ...

The old clock ticks away the day
that haemorrhages the evening,
and like a night- nurse at the bed
as growing lesions slowly spread,
the crescent moon would nothing say
to see the patient pass away ;
the stars call out but they are late -
what metaphysics spring from that
while in my soul eternity
is smiling like the Cheshire cat !...
A presence haunts me as that touch -
that hugs the heels in failing light,
with eyes that peer through space and time
and follow me into the night.... ...

The pine wood has its secrets -
I am one of them now,
like the columns of an ancient temple,
straight and upright
where no priest intercedes -
I trust it with my life,
I am theirs and they are mine,
growing inside me, sturdily and strong,
transcending their roots with my secrets
to their archetypal heaven... ... ...

As if a change of consciousness was meant,
against the pull of ego, the body
inwardly swept up in spiral ascent,
spirited away from me
from all the world below,
from all that I would ever be
that anyone might know ;
raised the cloaked arm
of my archetype
to draw the void across my eyes,
and I did rise to heights of bliss
to see the world from this -
dancing in vortices, tiptoeing on pools
as through a mesh, devoid of flesh ;
our world is an illusion -
a carousel to light,
as in the midst of heaven
we ghost on through the night... ...

Listening to that small male thrush
round the spire, above the yew,
singing at the midnight hush
as if the stars were listening too.
So crystal clear, beyond the word ,
beyond the miles we count in years,
a cosmos in a tiny bird
but then, it does through us, have ears,
a miracle beyond the veil,
and it would move my heart to weep,
to share with you that nightingale
in silence, with the earth asleep... ...

Stars seem captive tonight, out there
held by their own gravity,
and so am I in thinking
space would mirror
the freedom of my inward gaze :
All life is light, the light
that fills the external void
while within, that feeling of space,
the loving space we make
where others live and move,
that space is freedom, loves expression
thus love is also life as well as light.
The face of youthful being
is mainly green and vain,
until it comes to know
that inside beauty
that hides it's timeless age,
where an old man in time
hides his ageless youth... ...

As if the quiet moon
had hypnotised the wood to give it mood,
how her secondary light silouhettes the owl
that blinks to my startle, and with one lid alone
captivates the sunlight in the dark ;
what aeons forged its silent passage
to alight unnoticed,
poised like a star on the void's abyss
to perch on a bough !
Conjured up that spell-cast form
to present it for nature's night,
with that tremulous call
the most lunar song of all,
to fly unhurried on its way
though seldom by the light of day -
from shade to shade pure spirit
as if the turning world, knew it ?.. ... ...

Rays at sunrise, like a chord
fill the mountain air with song,
all vibrations to a word
reminiscent of a gong !
Grandeur is the rolling earth
turning to a morning sky,
questioning the golden eagle
does not the dawn imply the eye ?
To see the sheepdog with the sheep
run those foothills to the scar,
how solid ripples in the rock
are fluid echoes of a star !
A clutch of eggs the hue of sky
as if the sky had learned to fly ;
to fill the mountain air with song
now reminiscent of a gong !... ... ...

Sometimes a presence, walks with me
as if to share my life,
so like that star above, that casts
my shadow with its own light,
walks through the gulls with me
and round the scaurs,
along the margin where the tide roars,
the line of tide along the sand
and the life-line upon my hand ;
seeking the spirit is like looking for the wind,
not finding the wind but only what the wind does ;
a presence within, as if from beyond
where the mind cannot reach as it meets transcendence-
as my eye is dissolved by blue sky ;
with me, it seems, all day, in endless moments,
a gentle companion,
'til the mundane world returns, to span,
fill the depths and shrink the man.

Tall trees, transcend
with magnificent beauty,
as if they had forgotten
their roots that fed on earth,
as my old gnarled thoughts, discarded
are the shed leaves of my mind;
snowdrops come, surprising,
each blossom, white, seems prodigal,
discoloured brown and going, going,
gone - but not forgotten yet,
late daffodils, trumpet their last notes
like that sound of 'one hand clapping'
and in dying, bend and bow to sacred ground;
ubiquitous bird-song, clear,
I make no scent or sound among the deer
when in spirit here... ... ...

The light that lifts my mind
has given that old oak another cycle, -
rising to awake from sleep,
dying for our contemplation,
and almost in vain
as if condemned with ball and chain
to pull us through these endless orbits,
while underneath our feet earth trembles
agitated at the heart... ... ...

I feel the Atlantic
connect me far and wide,
the whispered rush of surf
from its incoming tide,
under mackerel sky
cosmic in its movement,
lapping at my feet here
like a humble servant ;
for do the heavens lie
above these starlit shores ?
look through your spirit's eye -
you'll know the world is yours.... ... ...

We picked the fruit of Osho 's thoughts
that sounded like a harp,
then gave him belladonna
when the fruit was sweet and sharp,
entangled in a world of fear
we reached across that rift
and murdered him
without the thorn's reminder of a gift... ... ...

The sun is getting low now,
long evening shadows quell the song of shrike,
a heron with legs hanging, lifting from a dyke,
content to fly beyond the last disturbance ;
flecks above the sky - line are geese migrating
with winter in their wake, like lines of script
that prohesy, their trail across the barren moon,
counterpoint the life on earth,
lead the eye to the horizon ; as darkness grows
around them, the stars appear as something
not quite forgotten, seem to infer
that feeling as a spell cast -
not only on the eye above between the eyes
but upon the whole beautiful earth
that in floating like an apparition
was going nowhere through a void of meaning... ...
The whirling dervish, reels for stillness and for joy... ...
Tidal as these waters that erode their channels
through the reeds, a feeling comes and goes
of warmth that infiltrates my being,
as gradual as I come to be
the silence that the curlew punctuates ;
the world in me is mine
as the world in you is yours, -
even the remotest twinkle of light ;
beyond all this,
all is alone and one.

American Idol - Will The Show Go On?

by David Johns

American Idol continues to set new records each week with the number of votes garnered from viewers when the time comes to selecting which contestant they liked best and preferred to have them stay in the competition. It is astounding as that interest remains in a talent show that is now into its seventh season, and while television ratings might have dipped slightly this year, it is undeniable that fans still love the show, and would remain devoted as long as there are willing contestants. And the latter numbers in the tens of thousands each year when American Idol auditions are held in the various cities across the United States.

With its seventh season now nearing its climax as one contestant gets eliminated each week until the final two pit their singing talents against each other, there has been a general lack of controversy and scandal this year, unlike that of previous seasons when many American Idol fans tagged onto every news bit that emerged from the show. Even the three judges of Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson got into the act at times which drummed up even more media hype. This season’s contestants appear to be genuinely interested in singing and having a chance to establish themselves in the music industry, rather than generating fanfare and interest from other sources.

However, there has also been a noticeable lack of personalities this year. The initial drama generated from the likes of Asia’H Epperson, Kristy Lee Cook and Amy Davis has quickly dissipated as two of them were eliminated early in the competition, while Kristy Lee Cook has been shown to lack any performing abilities and vocal range. The men themselves have looked shy or apprehensive on stage, with the exception of David Cook, whose overbearing confidence can be easily construed as overriding arrogance by many.

Without a doubt, the remaining contestants such as David Cook, David Archuleta, Michael Johns and Brooke White have showcased their vocal talents. But the lack of a performance edge has dulled the show on many occasions. Proponents of the show would applaud this development as they would now be able to concentrate on the genuine singing abilities of the finalists, but this could easily alienate the other fans of American Idol who are genuinely enamored of the star qualities from previous editions such as that of Katherine McPhee’s, who is now a regular feature in celebrity gossip columns. Whether this would lead to a stronger show in the long run is anybody’s guess, but American Idol is as much about show business as it is about singing, and it remains to be seen if the producers’ decision to go mainly for talent this year would be worth the risk.

David Johns is a keen fan of Asia'H Epperson for season 7 and American Idol in general. He enjoys reviewing the show every week and provides insightful critique of each contestant's performance.

1. Downloading Movies Must Be Fast

You should know that downloading huge files online can be slow if you are doing it with your computer. You will need special software to go along or simply put, an interface that allows for quick downloading of the movies. You may be pleased to know that there are some download sites where movie downloads are a few hundred times faster than the normal download speeds.

2. Monthly Fees Are No Good

If the download site requires monthly subscription fees, it is time to look elsewhere for better options. There are now many movie download sites that offer great selections of movies for a low one-time fee only. Plus, you get lifetime access to unlimited movie downloads. It's definitely more worthwhile becoming a member at these sites.
3. Easy to Understand Instruction GuidesNobody loves to read complicated instruction manuals. The same applies here. The better movie download sites are often the ones who offer tip-top information on how to make unlimited movie downloads accessible to you as a customer. Traditional businesses understand this – make the user instructions easy for the users and their experience would be enhanced. Happy customers are returning customers for your other products.

4. Unlimited Movie Downloads Collection

We are creatures who love to be spoilt for choice. Naturally, it is better to find a site that offers a wide range of movies from thriller, to adventure and science-fiction, etc. There are a few popular sites that offer just the right mix of all kinds of movies. Several of them even contain unreleased home videos made by amateurs. It may sound funny but there are some hobbyists who hunt for such home videos to beef up their private stash.

5. Great Feedback from Users/Customers

Word of mouth advertising is powerful. Market research has shown that for every satisfied customer, another 3 other persons would hear about the excellent quality of your product through this same customer. The flip side is, an angry customer would make sure another 10 persons hear negative comments about your product. It is therefore important to do a little bit of homework to read the comments of existing customers and reviews of the available sites for unlimited movie download.

6. 24/7 After-sales Service

We all want to deal with responsive technical support after we make our purchase. Every consumer deserves good after-sales service. Unfortunately, some download sites are quick to clinch deals, but slow to trouble-shoot your problems.

That's it. I believe you are now armed to your teeth with the necessary information to go hunting for a good unlimited movie downloads site that suits your preference. Alternatively, if you are lazy like most of us, you can head to my blog to read a review of the existing movie download sites and see which are the most popular sites for unlimited movie downloads.

The Famous Lambton Worm

Are you planning a holiday England? Instead of London and the south, why not try the north east of England? It is a region steeped in history, where the natives are friendly, the golden beaches are long and the countryside magnificent. If you like to shop, eat, drink and be merry, make Newcastle upon Tyne - the party capital of the north - your base. Visit China Town, Eldon Square, the Bigg Market and the quayside areas for your shopping, restaurants, and nightlife.

There are masses of places to visit nearby and one of them is Penshaw Monument. Travel south from Newcastle on the A1 or the A19 and if you haven't been to the area before, you may be surprised to see a Greek temple dominating the skyline. The temple stands on Penshaw Hill and was built in 1844 by Thomas Pratt as a memorial to the first Earl Of Durham, John George Lambton. Follow the path that winds up the hill for magnificent views of Durham and the river Wear.

Penshaw, the Wear and the Lambton family in particular, feature in the legend of The Lambton Worm. The worm in question was no ordinary common all garden worm, but was, despite it's small beginnings, a worm or wyrm that grew into a giant snakelike dragon. The local myth was adapted in 1867 from an oral tradition into a pantomime song, written by C. M. Leumane and performed on stage at the Tyne Theatre in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne.

There are at least two versions of the song, one in the Northumbrian dialect and the other in the Wearside dialect. One of which is below and since it is in dialect the following word translations may help.

whisht = quiet / haad = hold / yer = your / gobs =mouths / aa'll = I'll / ye = you / aboot = about, heuk = hook / thowt = thought / leukt = looked / varry = very / whatnt = what / oer = of / waas = was / waddnt fash = couldn't be bothered / hyem = home / hoyed = threw / noo = now / gann = go / an = and / nowther = neither / seun = soon / growed = grew / greet = great / neet = night / coos = cows / swally = swallow / brairns = children / hed = had / craaled = crawled / gannings = goings / knaa = know / byeth = both / hoo = how / hev = have.

The Lambton Worm.

Whisht lads, haad yer gobs,
An' aa'll tell ye an awful story,
Whisht lads, haad yer gobs,
An' aa'll tell yer aboot the worm.

On Sunday morning lambton went,
A'fishing in the Wear.
And catched a fish upon his heuk.
He thowt leukt varry queer,
But whatnt kind oer fish it waas,
Young Lambton couldn't tell-
He waddnt fash tu carry it hyem,
So he hoyed it in a well

Whisht lads, haad yer gobs,
etc, etc.

Noo Lambton felt inclined to gann,
An' fight in foreign wars,
He joined a group of knights that cared,
For nowther wounds nor scars,
An' off he went to Palestine,
Where queer things him befell,
An' very seun forgot aboot,
The queer worm I the well.

Whisht lads, haad yer gobs,
etc, etc.

But the worm got fat an growed
and growed,
An' growed an awful size,
Hee'd greet big teeth, and a greet big gob,
An greet big goggly eyes,
A when at neet he craaled aboot,
Ta pick up bits a' news,
If he felt dry upon the road,
he sucked a dozen coos

Whisht lads, haad yer gobs,
etc, etc.

This fearful worm wad often feed,
On calves an lambs an sheep,
An swally little bairns alive,
When they laid down to sleep,
An when he'd eaten aa'll he could,
An he had hed his fill,
He craaled away and wrapped his tail,
Ten times round Penshaw hill.

Whisht lads, haad yer gobs,
etc, etc.

The news ov this most aaful worm,
And his queer gannins on,
Seun crossed the seas an got t' the ears,
Of brave and bold Sir John,
So hyem he came and catched the beast,
And cut him in two halves,
An that seun stopped him eatin bairns,
An sheep and lambs an calves.

Whisht lads, haad yer gobs,
etc, etc.

So now ye knaa hoo aal thu folks
On byeth sides o'er the Wear,
Lost lots o' sheep an lots o' sleep,
An lived in mortal fear,
So let's hev one to brave Sir John
That kept thu bairns frae harm
Saved coos and calves
By making halves
Of the famous Lambton Worm.
